Keeping the Kids Happy!

Ever since we have had the allotment, we have had children. Throughout all their lives so far, during the productive allotment months, we have spent much of our time saying things such as, "No, you can't dig there!", "No, that's not a weed!" and, "I know you’re bored, we'll be going home in a minute!" So this year I am making it my mission to make the allotment an enjoyable space for them as well as us.

This began a few weeks ago with the installation of two old tyres which we have filled with sand (the plastic can be folded over the top to keep it dry). Now the children have their own little area in which they can dig without parental nagging. Next to that, we have also planted a sugar snap teepee in which they can (hopefully) hide when the peas are grown. The added bonus of that is that when we get the inevitable statement, 'Mummy, I'm hungry!' they can help themselves to some peas straight off the plant. Dual purpose!

The next task on the agenda is to create some homemade bird scarers, so keep your eyes on our allotment for our next children's instalment.
