National Nest Box Week

This week it is National Nest Box Week. Organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), it aims to raise awareness of the importance of providing safe shelter for birds to nest.

Some garden birds have a big role to play in helping the vegetable-grower in the battle against pests such as aphids and caterpillars.

With fewer places left to nest in hedgerows and gardens, birds such as Blue Tits, Wagtails and Robins will be grateful for a nesting box on your allotment. Position it high up in a tree or on your shed, preferably facing North.

See the BTO webpage here for more information about supporting National Nest Box Week, including how to make your own nest box. A great project for half term!
