Protect your Peas!

Most people love peas. Unfortunately, there are a number of pests which like them too! We are all used to the pea & bean weevil munching on the leaves, but this week some larger animals have been decimating our crops.

Several plots have reported damage to peas and mangetout. Mice are a common culprit, digging up the seeds to feast on and this may account for some losses. A bigger pest though are the pheasants and Jim reports seeing them happily eating their way through rows of peas, even getting under the netting in some cases.

If you haven't netted your young pea plants already we suggest you do - and make them as secure as possible.
