Tiger Moth Lands
We spotted a new and rather distinctive moth at the allotments recently. Some online research quickly identified it as the Jersey Tiger Moth (Euplagia quadripunctaria).
This is a large day-flying moth common in Europe and the Channel Islands and now becoming more widespread in the south of England.
The caterpillars feed on a range of plants - mostly weeds - including nettles, dandelions, ground ivy and brambles.
