World Soil Day 2018

We all know we should be the guardians of our soil and preserve it's fertility for future generations. It may be difficult for some people to break the habits of a lifetime and progress towards a kinder approach, but it's essential that that is what we now do.

Research proves that traditional methods of agriculture are detrimental to the soil. To quote Guy Singh-Watson, founder of Riverford Organic Farmers:

"We turn it over, we put the bugs that like to be on the top on the bottom, we expose the stuff that’s on the bottom to the sunshine... We drive over it with 10-tonne tractors and squeeze the life out of it. The way we treat the soil is a violent act."

We no longer use leeches as a cure for all our medical ailments, so why do we persist in hanging onto outdated knowledge when it comes to the way we grow our food? It's time to take a big step forward, stop polluting our soil, and embrace ecologically-sound solutions such as organic, no-dig, and permaculture.
