A Cool Idea

Jan grew some Mashua plants last year and kindly offered to save me some tubers. "Part way though the winter, they didn't look as though they were keeping very well", she said, "so I've had them in the fridge for a few months."

Sure enough, the little tubers looked in a sorry state (photo below) but, nothing ventured... so I potted them up in home-made compost and stuck them in the greenhouse. Amazingly, they all sprouted and flourished, and a couple of the plants are now happily growing at the allotment (photo above).

So, if anyone wants some tubers to keep and grow next year, just ask. We know how to store them - but remember to tell the rest of your family not to eat the strange things in the fridge!
