Merry Christmas Everyone!

So, here it is... our annual round-up of useful gifts for allotment-holders and your plots.

First up is a book which explains how to store and preserve all your surplus veg and fruit. How to Store your Garden Produce - The Key to Self-Sufficiency by Piers Warren, gets used on a daily basis in our household during the summer and autumn gluts.

A very attractive way to preserve your fruit is to make Rumtopf - which we blogged about back in February. Not only do you get a delicious dessert but also some heady rum punch just in time for next Christmas. Part of the pleasure is choosing from the assortment of lovely Rumpots available.

Growing by the moon was the subject of another blog this year. If you have heard of biodynamic growing you will know that much of the philosophy is based around the moon cycles and planetary positions. The brilliant In Tune With The Moon wall-planner does all the work for you. Just look for the colour-coded dates to find the best days to sow your root crops or harvest your beans.

Gold is usually associated with Christmas but, if you are a gardener, then copper will be your metal of choice. Copper tape; copper wire; copper-impregnated plant collars; copper tools - all help to keep the slugs and snails away. We buy most tools second-hand but this year we did splurge on a copper hand hoe - read the blog here.

We hope these ideas have given you (or whoever buys your gifts) some inspiration. Above all though, love and attention will be what makes your allotment flourish - and those are free.
